Gunmen attack Lagos State monarch
The newly traditional ruler in Ikorodu of Lagos State, Oba Olukayode Raji was on Sunday narrowly escaped being abducted by suspected hoodlums and land grabbers who invaded his Isiu palace in the town.
Penpushing reports that the bandits forced their way into the palace in dozens with dangerous weapons before the intervention of local vigilante groups that averted their plots and chased them away.
The monarch on August 24, 2020 received Staff of office from Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties, Wale Ahmed, but the attack on him was yet to be clear as at the time of filing this report
Penpushing further reports that the royal father narrating his ordeal said the hoodlums suddenly stormed his palace and started shooting sporadically; adding that in the process one of his sons was injured.
“Suddenly, we started seeing strange faces and many boys coming closer to the palace with different weapons in their hands. While they moved closer, they started shooting; one of my sons was wounded in the processes, he narrated.
“My house, my car and many people who came to pay homage to me were also wounded. More than 60 people were shot, those who sustained serious injuries have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
Penpushing also reports that, the traditional ruler said he contacted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Area Commander for assistance, adding that, they responded very late but later sent their officers to patrol the community. However, three suspects have been arrested so far’.
The monarch who called on the Lagos State Government to intervene to beef security to curb reoccurrence, however, called on community leaders and indigenes to cooperate and solve land matters themselves to ensure absolute peace within the communities.
