Senatorial poll: All Progressives Congress submits Lawan’s name to electoral commission inspite controversy surrounding candidature
The controversy surrounding the candidature of the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan is moving towards another round of drama, following submission of his name by the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), as its senatorial candidate to represent Yobe North Senatorial District of Yobe State
Penpushing reports that, sources said Lawan had earlier made move to contest for the Presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but failed, as he was also said to be eyeing the senatorial seat.
The political source said, within the period of Lawan sojourn to secure the presidential ticket, Bashir Machina was said to have been used to secure the senatorial ticket for Lawan, in case he failed in his presidential ticket bid.
Penpushing further reports that, as luck would have it Machina won at the poll, and thereafter insisted that, the ticket belong to him, emphasizing that, he had no agreement with Lawan to serve as a placeholder.
The argument of Machina, however, was rebuffed by the National Central Working Committee (NWC) of the party following the submission of Lawan name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the party senatorial candidate for the forthcoming election
Penpushing also reports that, the approved list dated June 16, 2022, forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed name of Lawan as candidate for Yobe North Senatoria District, while others are Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam(Yobe East Senatorial District) and Senator Mohammed Bomayi(Yobe South Senatorial District
The acclaimed of the senatorial ticket, Bashir Machina declared that he is seeking redress after the All Progressives Congress (APC) substituted his name on the list of candidates sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
Penpushing reports that, Machina insisted that he remains the authentic candidate for Yobe North,, adding that the the substitution was an error, describing the removal of his name as undemocratic, illegal and inhuman
“I don’t know whether it was erroneous, my name was not in the list of the names that was said to be presented today to INEC. For the avoidance of doubt, I remain the candidate duly elected of the APC Yobe North Zone C senatorial zone,” he said.
“Insha Allah, I will take measures, first by reminding and appealing to my party that if this action is truly done, it should be corrected, especially if it is erroneously done. We are actually seeking redress from the National Working Committee of our party under the able leadership of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman, that there is an anomaly and we need it to be corrected,” he said.
