Ogun state courts begin virtual proceedings, hear cases of accused persons

The courts in Ogun State have commenced audio-visual proceedings in criminal cases to avoid coronavirus infection through the physical appearance of suspects and accused persons in open courts.

Penpushing reports that, the Ministry of Justice  initiated the audio-visual documentation of court sessions, while the electronic court session kickstarted on Wednesday, with two armed robbery cases.

The online court session was  presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, as the court sitting was connected by an audio-visual link to the reception of  Abeokuta Correctional Centre,located in Ibara axis of the State Capital.

Penpushing further reports the suspects appeared for their cases, and the case was later adjourned the cases for mention.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Akin-gbolahan Adeniran, who spoke with journalists  after the court proceedings at the judiciary complex in Kobape, assures that the state judiciary is, fully, ready to host proceedings partly online and physically in the courtroom through the audio-visual link.

Penpushing also reports that, Adeniran explained that the electronic court session aims at preventing suspected criminals awaiting trial from coronavirus, noting that the judiciary ought to have been exploring electronic document management system and electronic proceedings before the coronavirus pandemic.
