Nigerian government to confer Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic on Tinubu ahead of inauguration

The President-elect Bola Tinubu will be conferred with the highest national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) four days to his inauguration as the President of Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha made this known in a schedule issued out for the inauguration ceremony holding on May 29, 2023, adding that Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima will also get the Grand Commander of Order of the Niger (GCON) honour on the same day.

The Secretary to the Federal Government who is the Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council who released the schedule at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja said the award ceremony is scheduled to hold on May 25, 2023

Penpushing further reports that it is the norm in Nigeria for the outgoing President to confer the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) honour on the incoming President, while it is, however, recalled that, a recent exception was in 2010 when the Council of State had to confer the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) title on Goodluck Jonathan due to the circumstances of his emergence, who emerged after the death of Umar Yar’Adua.

The Secretary to the Federal Government on the activities of the inauguration said it will commence with a dinner in honour of the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari on 23 May and regimental dinner in honour of the Commander in Chief Armed Forces Officers Mess @ 7:00 p.m.

The Wednesday, 24th May 2023 activities also include Valedictory Federal Executive Council Meeting at Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, while on Thursday, 25th May, 2023 Investiture of the President-Elect and Vice-President-Elect with the National Honors of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of Order of the Niger (GCON) respectively

Penpushing also reports that handover of Transition Documents is schedule for State House Conference Centre at 10:00am, while guests are to be seated by 9:00am, and on Friday 26th May, 2023 there will be public lecture and Jumaat Prayer at National Mosque between 10:00am and 1:30 pm

The Saturday 27th May, 2023 ceremony will be inauguration lecture on the topic: Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development by His Excellency, Uhuru M. Kenyatta, former President of Kenya International Conference Centre, at 10:00am with guests expected to be seated by 9:00am

Penpushing reports that on same Saturday 27th May, 2023, there will be Children’s Day Program, Parade; and Children’s Party to take place at Old Parade Ground by 10:00am, State House Conference Centre @ 2:00pm respectively

The Sunday, 28th May, 2023 ceremony will be Inter-Denominational Church Service at National Christian Centre by 10:00 a.m, while congregation to be seated by 9:00am), and same day there will also be inauguration Dinner/Gala Night at State House Conference Centre 7:00pm, with guests expected to be seated  by 6:00 pm.

Penpushing further reports that on Monday, 29th May, 2023 there will be inauguration parade/swearing-In at Eagle Square, CBD by 10:00 a.m, and guests should be on seat by 8:30 a.m. and later in the day there is post inauguration luncheon at State House Banquet Hall by 1:30 pm, strictly for President with brother Presidents, Heads of Government and his invited guests.
