Minister Salako to seek bilateral collaboration on climate mitigation at United National General Assembly

The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Adekunle Salako is to represent Nigeria as participant at the 78th United Nations General Assembly to seek strategic partnership, bilateral collaboration, aimed to update the global community of Nigeria’s efforts at climate mitigation and adaptation.

Penpushing reports that a statement by Director of Press Federal Ministry of Environment, Haruna Ibrahim on Monday made available to journalists explained that Salako will be at the high level for Nature and People meeting to demonstrate Nigeria leading role in Africa and in the West Africa sub-region on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (The high seas).

The Minister will also participate in the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General’s Climate Ambition Summit to join other world leaders to talk about key climate action, targets and milestones like Nationally Determined Contributions, Energy Transition Plans, fossil fuel phase out plans, renewable energy targets and economic wide plans on climate adaptation and resilience.

Penpushing also reports that Salako,  a notable member of Penpushing platform, in addition is scheduled to participate in the Commonwealth Ministers of Environment and Climate Meeting, High Ambition for the High Seas, High level event on building economies for the future and similar multilateral high level events.

The statement added that the Minister will equally hold bilateral meetings with colleague ministers from other countries and development partners within the environment and climate change thematic areas.

Penpushing reports that the statement, however stated that the Minister said that he hopes to focus international attention and mobilize more support for the ambitious climate agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end the super dependence of Nigeria on fossil fuel
