Gunmen kill Reverend Father, abduct 75 year old

The Parish Priest of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Kastina State, Alphonsus Bello has been killed with his corpse found on a farmland behind the Catechetical Training School, Malumfashi in the State.

Penpushing reports that, the Director of Communications for Sokoto Diocese, Reverend Chris Omotosho  made this known  in a note forwarded  to the national communications office of the Catholic Secretariat in Abuja.

The Communications Director explained that  the attack by the bandits occurred at about 11.30pm on Thursday and that Bello was, until his death, the parish priest of St. Vincent, adding that another Reverend Father Keke, a 75 a priest-in-residence was abducted and whereabout unknown as at the time of filing this report.

Penpushing further reports that, the death of the cleric followed an earlier report at about 1.35am on Friday by the Dean of Malumfashi Deanery, Stephen Ojapah, that the parish house of St. Vincent Ferrer Church was attacked by bandits numbering about 15.

The Kastina State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah, also confirmed the incident, adding that operatives of the command responded to a distress call from the church after the incident.

Penpushing also reports that, Isah said the operatives went on the trail of the bandits only to stumble on the corpse of the clergyman, adding that the command has equally commenced intensive investigation.

The police spokesman said so far and as at the time of filing this report two people, suspected to be complicit in the abduction, have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation, with assurance that the abducted cleric will be rescued.
