Civil defence commandant seeks partnership with journalists

The  Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command , Commandant Niyi Ajibola  has sought the cooperation of journalists to join the agency in the fight against crimes and criminals

Penpushing reports that, Ajibola made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Iwe-Iroyin, Press Centre, secretariat of the council in Abeokuta.

The agency boss disclosed that the agency has concluded plans to revive quick response team to respond to emergency security situation across the state, and encouraged journalists to join force in the task.

“Whatever we do as far as carrying out our mandate, we cannot do without the media. If the media is not with us, is like we are working in vain. We have interrelated functions because the two bodies are serving the people”, he said

Penpushing further reports that, Ajibola  explained  that his mission was to support the government to meet its policies and programmes, by ensuring adequate security in all the crannies of the state, assuring that the Counter Terrorists Unit of the Corps would assist the state in tackling cultism and other social vices.

“Our agency is created to serve the people and all our mandates are people’s friendly and geared towards the wellbeing if the people. The Media too is to serve the people by way if information on whatever is going on so, if we are doing our work without recognizing the status and the power of the media, then we are not working at all”, he added

Penpushing also reports that, some of the leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) in attendance include: Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji(Founder Penpushing Media), Wole Shokunbi(Former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist, Ogun State Council) and Dada Olanipekun(Publisher Prestige Newspaper)
