Governor Makinde picks second term ticket

The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Penpushing reports that  Makinde at the poll held on Wednesday at the Lekan Salami Sports in Ibadan defeated Hazeem Gbolarumi, who was his only opponent in the primaries.

The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Electoral Committee, Abdullahi MaiBasira, announcing  the results disclosed that 1,048 delegates were accredited to vote adding that Makinde scored 1,040 votes to defeat Gbolarumi, who recorded two votes; adding that six votes were voided.

Penpushing further reports that Makinde in his acceptance speech thanked  delegates for finding him worthy to be the party’s flag bearer in the 2023 election, adding that he’s not the most brilliant or most upright,assuring that for believing in him, he would not disappoint them.

“I’m not the most brilliant or the most upright person yet you gave me your mandate. Thank you for believing in me and in our party, PDP. Trust is like a building. For every building to stand it must have a solid foundation; the foundation for trust is truth”, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, Makinde  while assuring the delegates that he would continue to be honest, urged all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the state to continue working for the progress of the partake.

The other contender in response to the excercise alleged that his supporters were chased away from the venue of the primaries, calling on the leadership of the party to do the right thing for the growth of the party in the state.

Penpushing reports that,the exercise was witnessed byt he Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Mutiu Agboke, and the the Independent National Electroral Commission(INEC) Administrative Secretary, Abiodun Onigate-Amosun, witnessed the primaries.The poll was also monitored by representatives of security agencies,  Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC)  and the State Security Service (SSS).
