2023: Independent National Electoral Commission to print 571 million ballot papers for polls, says chairman

The Independent National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday disclosed that 571 million ballot papers will be printed for the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that, Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu made this known while presenting paper on the topic, “2023 Elections: Managing the Process for Credible Outcome”, at the 6th annual conference of Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) held in Lagos.
The Chairman added that, 95 million voters have been registered to participate in the election, stressing that only those duly accredited will be allowed to vote, emphasising  that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as regulator will play its roles by the regulations and guidelines of the commission, and that politicians should equally familiarize themselves with the electoral act.
Penpushing further reports that, Yakubu pointed out , conducting elections in Nigeria is like conducting elections in the entire West Africa countries, explaining that, the entire voters in Nigeria is over 25million voters in the entire West Africa countries, adding that in addition Nigeria is the first nation in Africa to introduce and start transmitting polling units results in West Africa, which other countries are now trying to emulate.
The electoral  boss, however, called for media partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the poll, stressing that the media has major roles to play for a successful elections, with a call to practitioners to guide against falsehood, stressing that antidote to fake news is authentic news, emphasising that fake news is a national security threat, and all hands must be on deck to address the menace.
Penpushing also reports that, the commission commended the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) for injecting sanity into journalism, encouraging the members to come out in full force in battle against fake news, affirming that the emergence of the body is a blessing to journalism practice globally.
