15 KILLED, 38 INJURED AS VEHICLE PLUNGES INTO RIVER

Fifteen travellers were on Tuesday killed in a road crash on Ijebu-Ode -Ibadan Expressway when the truck conveying them from Sokoto  and heading to Ijebu-Ode plunged into Omi River in Ajegunle axis of the road.

Penpushing reports that, the Public Relations Officer of Federal Road Safety  Commission,(FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe who confirmed the incident said thirty eight others sustained serious injuries and taken to State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode for medications as at the time of filing this report

The agency spokesperson  said rescue operatives led by the corps commander ijebu ode and rescue operatives from Ago Iwoye outpost were quickly mobilized to the scene, adding that, fifteen corpses already recovered from under the bridge from the dried Omi river

Penpushing further reports that, the agency image maker  said the corpses have been evacuated to Sabo in Ijebu-Ode with the Sarki Hausawa making arrangements with the police for mass burial of the dead victims

The Public Relations Officer of the commission said the suspected cause of the crash is fatigue, adding that the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the dried Omi river, which has a narrow bridge bereft of safety guard railings

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Clement Oladele commiserated with the victims and advised passengers to desist from boarding vehicles meant for carrying goods, which he pointed out that by design only meant for goods transportation
