Local government citizens to present charter of demands to political office holders

The citizens of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Ogun State have concluded arrangement to prepare a charter of demands for their political representatives both at the state and federal governments, aimed to address challenges being face in the council area.

Penpushing reports that the Convener of the platform, Adeshola Afariogun, made this known in a statement adding that the document will be validated at a town hall meeting in September, stressing that there is a need for citizens to lend their voice in shaping the future of their communities.

The convener in the statement therefore called on all relevant stakeholders to propose solutions that will ignite the transformation of the local government, affirming that the document would be signed by over thousand citizens, and  after compilation it will be presented to the State and Federal Legislators from Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.

‘Citizens are encouraged to be part of this process by completing an online form. Alternatively, they can approach their traditional leaders or community leaders for guidance on how to add their voice to the charter of demands”, he said.

Penpushing further report that Afariogun in the statement made available to journalists said Ado-Odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform is an initiative of the African Foundation for Environment and Development (AFED).

The convener also explained that the platform has become a veritable tool for driving accountability from public servants, encouraging citizens’ participation in governance, and promoting mutual understanding for sustainable development in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.
