Tinubu’s political loyalist, Kemi Nelson dies at 66

A frontline member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State and one of the close loyalist of the presidential candidate of the party, Kemi Nelson has been reported dead at 66 after a brief illness.

Penpushing reports that Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state Mr. Seye Oladejo, confirmed the death of the Nigerian politician and socialite who was the Executive Director of the Nigerian Insurance Social Trust Fund.

The late Nelson attended the Lagos State University, Ojo, and in the 1980s, joined the now defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) during the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, while she was the senatorial candidate for the Lagos West Senatorial district in 1992, but defeated at the polls by Bola Tinubu.

Penpushing further reports that, Nelson in 1998, during the regime of General Abacha, contested for the Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Assembly under the platform of UNCP, won the election but it was truncated by the death of General Abacha.

The famous female politician, in 1999, joined Alliance for Democracy (AD) and from 1999 to 2003, she served as the Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation during the tenure of Bola  Tinubu .

Penpushing also reports that, before her death served as the Women Leader of Lagos State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) and was later made the South West Women Leader of the party, and was the only female serving member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).
