United Nations to train African journalists on sustainable development goals reportage

The Africa Regional Headquarters of the United Nations (UN)Development Coordination Office has concluded arrangement for online Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Media Training for African Journalists.

Penpushing reports that the training scheduled for a duration of four hours, 30 minutes will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 with number of journalists across the continent already signified interest to participate.

The workshop details showed that it will be conducted in English language with following time zone which include 13.00 – 17.30 Addis Ababa time / 10.00 – 14.30 Dakar time / 11.00h – 15.30 Lagos time, while modality is online via microsoft teams

Penpushing further reports that the agenda has it that the introduction will be handled by Ronald David Kayanja, Director, United Nations Information Center (UNIC), Nigeria, while Antonio Pedro, Deputy Executive Secretary (Programme Support) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) will handle the topic, Africa’s Progress on the 2030 Agenda: Challenges and Opportunities Ahead’

The Regional Director, United Nations (UN) Development Coordination Office (UN DCO) Regional Office for Africa Yacoub Ali El-Hillo, will address the topic, ‘The Urgency of SDGs Acceleration and Media’s Role’, while Lerato Mbele, International Broadcaster and Journalist will speak on ‘Changing the Narrative: Reporting on Africa beyond Stereotypes’

Penpushing also reports that Sandra Macharia, Director, United Nations (UN) Information Service (UNIS) in Nairobi will treat the topic, ‘The Summit of the Future: A once-in-a-generation Opportunity’, and Tarek Cheniti, Senior Regional Coordination Officer, United Nations(UN) Development Coordination Office (DCO) Africa looking at the topic ‘Driving SDG Acceleration in Africa: Insights on Key Transitions’

The open discussion is localizing the SDGs using a Transition Approach to Acceleration which is to be moderated by Tarek Cheniti, Senior Regional Coordination Officer, UN DCO Africa, as well as Alex Ngartoubam, Programme Data Monitoring & Reporting Analyst, UN DCO Africa analyzing the topic ‘Tools for Effective Reporting of the SDGs
