Lockdown: Ogun State communities go spiritual against armed robbers

The Ogun State communities have embarked on spiritual warfare against armed robbers with the introduction of Oro diety to checkmake the alleged incessant  criminal activities of the bandits across the State.

Penpushing reports that, the communities in similar development had formed themselves into vigilante groups, aimed to give the bandits good fight, as investigations showed that, in the recent time, the armed bandits used the lockdown period to give residents sleepless nights and launched attack on them.

The investigations also showed that, the landlords and residents armed to  teeth  were now seen mounting baricades at  evey points of entry into  their communities, to challenge the notorious marauders who subjected  them to mental torture before carting away their properties

Penpushing further reports that, many of the residents in an interview posited that, it has become a known fact that, police cannot do it alone, hence, the resolve to complement their efforts and therefore formed local security in their various communities

‘Except we are deceiving ourselves, it is glaring that police cannot do it alone, and cannot be everywhere at the same time, and couple with their inadequate personnel and equipment, hence, the way out is to support them, and jointly give the bad elements in the society good fight’, residents said.

Penpushing also reports that, within the last one week, there had been reported cases of alleged invasion of armed robbers, in number of communities, necessiating residents in sending messages through phones, about presence of bandits in their various communites and call for help from the security operatives

The Ogun State Police Command  in reaction to the alleged incessant robbery attacks  appealled to the residents  not to be unnecessarily apprehensive as the authorities are doing everything possible to protect them’

Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement  issued a warning notice to vigilante and local security operatives over incessant firing gun shot in attempt to scare criminals within their communities in the State.

‘The Command also wishes to appeal to the good people of Gateway State not to be unnecessarily apprehensive as the police are doing everything possible to protect them’, Oyeyemi emphasied.

Penpushing  further reports  that,  Oyeyemi in the statement, explained that the warning became necessary following findings which showed that, their actions are causing panic and apprehension in the mind of members of the public.

‘The Ogun State police command has noticed with concern the activities of some Vigilante and local security men who have formed the habit of firing gun shot in the air intermittently at night in the name of scaring hoodlums away from their area, thereby causing panic and apprehension in the mind of members of the public’.

The statement said in as much as the command will appreciate any collaborative efforts to keep criminals at bay in the state, declared that such effort should devoid of any act capable of doing more damage than the intended good.

‘The Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson hereby appeal to all vigilante and local security men to desist from sporadic shooting of gun into the air as this has been subjecting members of the public to various degrees of mental and psychological trauma due to the fact that they were misconstruing it to be armed robbery attack within their neighborhoods’, the statement said.
