Institute of Directors celebrates 40th anniversary with fitness walk, medical check up
The Institute of Directors (IOD), South-West Chapter on Saturday joined in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Institute, across the country, which include Walk for Life, medical talk as part of activities for the ceremony.
Penpushing reports that the members of the Institute led by the Chairman of the South-West, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, all in anniversary T-Shirt with fez cap to match embarked on fitness walk from the regional headquarters of the Institute at Oke-Mosan to the Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta.
The members, thereafter returned to the headquarters, to continue the ceremony with a health talk with the theme, ‘Benefit of Regular Medical Check and Impact on Modern Diet on Human Health’, delivered by Chief Biomedical Scientist, Adedeji Adeyanju of the Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Abeokuta.
Penpushing further reports that members of the institute and other invited guests were also provided with opportunities of medical checkup, which include check on Blood Pressure (BP), Body Mass Index (BMI) and Diabetic Screening
The Regional Chairman of the Institute, Iyalode Alaba Lawson in an interview advised Nigerians on need to be mindful of their food intake as well as engage themselves in regular exercise in order to live a heathy life.
Penpushing also reports that Lawson, emphasized that everybody must ensure to keep themselves fit in order to enjoy their daily life, with urge to do all within their capacities to ensure they are fit by engaging in exercise.
‘Today is very significant because we have to keep fit, even if you are 40 or above, I am 72 years old, we must keep fit and to keep fit you have to do the work for life. Also, exercise is part of it and walking is part of life. This part of activities that we have line-up, we have a lot of programmes but this particular one is to show that we must keep fit”, she said.
“Everybody, the younger and the old, we must try to keep fit by exercising our body and one of the most easiest way is the walk, you walk and then you will exercise all the parts of the body”, Lawson stressed
Penpushing reports that on what the Institute stands for, she explained that it is for corporate governance, accountability and empowering as well as mentoring the youths, as leaders of tomorrow to take over
“Institute of Directors stands for cooperate governance, accountability and empowering, mentoring the youths because we believe the young ones are the ones to take up our place when we are taking our exit and if you don’t show them the way , you don’t mentor them then they don’t know where to go”.
“We are chartered institute of Directors. What we want is for our young ones to take necessary positions of good governance which is lacking in this country and this new government is hammering upon and we can see the right steps in right direction”.
Penpushing further reports that the guest lecturer Adedeji Adeyanju in his topic ‘Benefits of Regular Medical Checkup and Impact of Modern Diet on Human Health “, cautioned that, Nigerians must not be careless about their health status, hence must engage routine checkup.
The Chief Biomedical Scientist pointed out that routine medical check would ensure detection of any health challenge at the early stage, saying this would avoid life threatening diseases, just as he listed rest, exercise and good diet as what must be the daily routine of anybody who wants to live Health life.
“Let’s make sure we eat right food at the right time to avoid certain medical challenges. Importance of medical checkup cannot be overemphasized because it helps us also to detect any health challenge. Let’s take time out of our busy schedule to know our health status”, Adeyanju stated.
Penpushing also reports that the guest of honour and former Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Works and Infrastructure, Akeem Adesina in his goodwill message, commended the “Walk for Life” initiative.
The Guest of Honour represented by Hon. Abiola Asalulola pointed out that Directors must keep their bodies and minds healthy in order to achieve set objectives, adding that ceremony was commendable in all ramifications
‘This is a commendable initiative, and I believe it is an excellent opportunity for Directors to engage in regular physical exercise and body fitness activities. This program provides a platform for Directors to keep their bodies and minds healthy, which is essential to achieving their set objectives’.
‘The benefits of regular exercise and body fitness activities cannot be overstated. Exercise helps to strengthen the body, improve the immune system, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and improve mental health. It is essential that we take our health seriously, and I am confident that the “Walk for Life” programme will go a long way in improving the health and wellbeing of Directors in Nigeria”.
