
Ijebu Traditional Council hosts Iyabo Obasanjo on governorship ambition

The Governorship aspirant under the banner of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun State ahead of 2027 poll, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has been hosted by Ijebu Traditional Council as part of strategic engagements toward her governorship ambition.
Penpushing reports that the aspirant on arrival on Tuesday with her entourage was received by the traditional rulers into the Awujale palace and thereafter held a closed-door consultation, said to centred on her governorship aspiration.
The high-level meeting was chaired by the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Adebajo, who serves as the council’s permanent representative, while other monarchs in attendance include Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdulrasaq Adenugba; Elese of Ilese-Ijebu, Oba Oluremi Owolabi Obayomi; Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Sikiru Adefuape Okuribido; Moyegeso of Itele, Oba Mufutau Kasali; and the Lipa of Molipa, Oba Odubena, among others

Penpushing further reports that details of the deliberations were not made public as journalists were not allowed into the venue of the meeting, however, the aspirant after the meeting told journalists that that her visit was to formally notify the monarchs of her intention to contest the Ogun State governorship and to seek their support. .
“I am here to consult with the royal fathers on my candidacy, to inform them of my intention to run for Governor of Ogun State. I seek a partnership with Ijebuland to achieve this and to make commitments that I intend to uphold upon assumption of office’, Obasanjo said.
Penpushing also reports that the former Commissioner for Health, however, declined to disclose specifics of the assurances given, citing strategic considerations, emphasizing that the promises are confidential.
“The promises are confidential because there are others in the race who may not share the same ideas. Releasing them prematurely could lead to replication. But I remain committed to my vision for Ijebuland and the entire state’, she added.
Penpushing reports that Obasanjo equally reaffirmed her support for the second-term agenda of President Bola Tinubu, aligning her gubernatorial aspiration with the broader national political direction.
