The longest ambitious Presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 presidential election may be his final attempt to become Nigeria’s leader, having attempted number of times
Penpushing reports that he made this clear during a television interview explaining that age would no longer be on his side and equally cited high stakes involvement as major reasons to stop running the race
The former Vice President under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, explained that he would have attain 80 years, hence, it would likely be his last outing
Penpushing further reports that it would be recalled that Atiku made multiple attempts to become Nigeria’s president since returning to partisan politics in 2003, while he first contested the presidency in 1993 under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) primaries before stepping down for the late Moshood Abiola.
The ubiquitous politician later ran in 2007 under the Action Congress©, losing to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and in 2011 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), but lost to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Penpushing also reports that Atiku returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)and contested the 2019 presidential election, where he lost to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former vice president who has consistently positioned himself as a long-time advocate of restructuring, economic liberalisation and private sector-driven growth, in 2023, again emerged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate but lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
