Penpushing editorial board chairman, Funke Fadugba bags maiden milestone recognition award in journalism

The Chairman, Editorial Board of Penpushing Media, Deaconess Olufunke Fadugba has recorded another feat in journalism profession, following milestone recognition award bestowed on her by the umbrella body of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)

Penpushing reports that Fadugba’s name will remain in a record of history globally, being a recipient of the award, at the maiden edition of the annual milestone recognition of media icons in Nigeria, at an event held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at banquet hall of Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos State

The unique feature of the record breaking of Fadugba was that, she was an awardee alongside with grandfather of journalism which include Chief Olusegun Osoba(former Governor of Ogun State),Prince  Sam Amuka-Pemu(Publisher Vanguard newspapers), Chief Raymond Dokpesi(founder of first  Global Satellite Television, African Independent Television) and Dr John Momoh(Chairman of Channels Media Group)

Penpushing further reports that, the awardees include Bayo Onanuga, Kabiru Abdullahi Yusuf(Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Daily Trust Newspapers), Malam Muhammad Garba(former President Nigeria Union of Journalists) and Alhaji Muhammammed (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Blueprint Newspaper) among others

The former Governor and veteran journalist, who doubles as Chairman of the occasion, Chief Olusegun Osoba personally presented the award to Fadugba, who was also two time Chairperson of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ, Lagos State Council.

Penpushing also reports that, Fadugba a household name in journalism globally retired as General Manager News, Raypower FM, before settling down as Editorial Board Chairman Penpushing Media, and holds Degree in Educational Planning and Administration, as well as a Master in Guidance and Counselling

The awardee, about 19 years ago, as the Chairperson of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, led journalists to become landlords through the establishment of journalists’ estate phases 1 and 2 at Arepo community

Penpushing reports that, Fadugba was accompanied to the historic, graceful and colourful event by Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji(Founder Penpushing Media), Yinka Shokunbi(veteran journalist, an online blogger as well as General Secretary  of Journalists Estate Residents) among others

The Chairman of the occasion in his speech, pointed out that the celebration of media professionals is beginning of great things in the journalism world, noting that before now, journalists are more interested in celebrating others at their own expense.

Penpushing further reports that, Osoba emphasized that this initiative of celebrating members of the union was a welcome development, which must be encouraged, adding that it will serve as motivation for the professionals

The former Governor said, it is also high time for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to open its website for the registration of the qualified practicing journalists, which will help in eradicating fake members.

Penpushing also reports that, he explained that, the leadership of the union, in making it work, must compel all journalists to register through the website, stressing that, whoever, failed to register should be considered as non-member and should not be allowed to practice

‘This is beginning of celebrating ourselves, today is the beginning of great things. It is about time NUJ must open website where all qualified members must register. It is high time NUJ flush out fake journalists’, he stated

‘All journalists must subscribe to code of conduct and ethics .This is my recommendation. I can assure you, we shall continue to be available to do anything that affect the Nigeria Union of Journalists’, Osoba emphasized

Penpushing reports, that in her short remarks after receiving the laudable award, Fadugba who was beaming with smiles throughout the ceremony expressed appreciation to the national body of the union for the award

‘It was indeed a great honour and privilege to be presented the Nigeria Union of Journalists Milestone Recognition of Media Icons by His Excellency Osoba at the Muson Centre, Lagos. It is an award I want to cherish so much. I appreciate the NUJ leadership both at the National and Lagos State for this honour by my professional body. I am grateful’, Fadugba emphasized
