Clash between customs, community claims life of personnel in Ogun State

A Violent clash erupted in Imasai town in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State between officials of the Nigeria Customs Services and residents of the community, resulting in the alleged murder of one of the personnel of the customs, as well as number of properties destroyed.

Penpushing reports the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada who confirmed the incident on Sunday said, the operatives of the National border were on routine anti-smuggling operations and had encounter with some suspected smugglers.

The customs spokesman said, in the melee that ensued, one of the operatives was brutally murdered by some unscrupulous elements, adding that as at the time of filing this report investigations were ongoing, assuring that details shall be communicated as soon as possible.

‘Its confirmed that the operatives of the National Border drill went on routine anti-smuggling operation and had an encounter with some suspected smugglers. In the melee that ensued,one of the operstives was brutally murdered by some unscuplous elements. However, investigation is ongoing and details shall be communicated as soon as practically possible’. Maiwada said.

Penpushing further reports that, as at Sunday morning number of residents of the community were reported to have left their houses, and hiding in the bush ,while some locked themselves up in their homes  to avoid arrest and retaliatory attack from the customs official following the killing of one of the.

Meanwhile, a resident who spoke on phone with our correspondent from hiding said, the situation was still tense as at the time of this report, claiming that, the customs arrived the community in five Hiace buses to launch attack
