Segun Showunmi in Ibadan
A gang of suspected rapists have murdered an 18-year-old student of College of Animal Health and Production, Apata, Ibadan, Barakat Bello, after she was gang-raped by the runaway suspects in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
Penpushing reports that the incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday in Akinyele area of Ibadan, while the remains were later discovered by her parents within the vicinity of the family residence.
The father of the deceased was reported saying that he met her daughter’s dead body around their home, adding that after a close examination on her body, they discovered that she was raped, and later got murdered.
Penpushing further reports that, as at the time of filing this report,the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites, and in reaction to the sad development. the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest, zone D has demanded justice for the deceased.
The Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP. Olugbenga Fadeyi when contacted on phone about the incident, said that the police will react soon on the incident.
Meanwhile, Barakat’s death has continued to attract outrage nationwide as Nigerians have taken to social media to express their displeasure over the rising cases of rape in the country with the hashtag #JusticeforBarakat.
