Wife, son of former edo state speaker abducted on way to burial of husband
The wife and son of the late former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba has been abducted by gunmen while travelling from Abuja to Auchi with other relatives for the burial rites of Garuba.
Penpushing reports that, the former Speaker died earlier on Saturday following undisclosed ailment, and the family heading towards Auchi town through Okene-Lokoja road when the gunmen struck.
The eyewitness said that the gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, rained bullets on their vehicle at Irepeni community along the road, forcing the vehicle to stop, and subsequently abducted the two victims and other relations except his aged mother.
Penpushing further reports that, Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, William Aya, while confirming the incident, said that police swung into action immediately after receiving the report.
The police spokesman said that three of the victims had been rescued while the bush was being combed to locate others,as at the time of filing this report, adding that the police had, earlier in the day, foiled an attempted kidnap of six persons along Obajana-Kabba road.
