Man kills wife, commits suicide 24 hours later

A man, Ayoola Ayanwale has allegedly stabbed his wife to death at their residence in River Valley Estate in Ojodu – Berger area of Ogun State, following matrimonial scuffle and later fled the scene to commit suicide.

Penpushing reports that the death of the woman, Ganyat Ayanwale, mother of three occurred on Thursday January, 8, 2026 after she was fatally stabbed at about 8pm, while the suspect immediately fled the scene when gravity of the crime dawned on him.

The woman was said to have been rushed to the hospital but efforts to revive her proved abortive following loss of blood, while concern residents embarked on manhunt for the man, as well as producing flyers for public to help apprehend him.

Penpushing further reports that in a shocking development, 24 hours after the sad incident in the early hours of January 9, 2026, the corpse of the suspect was found at the new site of Palm Groove Community Development Association (CDA), Sotubo area of Ogun State.

The observation on the corpse indicated that the man committed suicide, following discovery of foamy substance in his mouth suggesting that he might have ingested a poisonous substance since a bottle of sniper was also found near the body.

Penpushing also reports that Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Seyi Babaseyi confirmed the incident explaining that the command has commenced investigation into the incidents

‘Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into a domestic murder reported on 8 January 2026 in Ojodu Abiodun, believed to be connected to a suspected suicide on 9 January 2026 in Sotubo’, he wrote.

‘On 8 January, a woman, Ayobami Ganiyat Ayanwale, was allegedly stabbed by her husband, Ayoola Ayanwale, and later pronounced dead at a medical facility. Three knives were recovered from the residence, while the couple’s three children were placed in the care of relatives. The case was slated for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)’, Babaseyi added.

‘On 9 January, the suspect was found unresponsive in an open field in Sotubo and was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Items recovered at the scene linked him to the earlier incident’, he stated.
