Traditional council sacks village head over criminal activities on land matters

The Ijemo Council of Chiefs in Egbaland has suspended the village Head (Baale) of Agejo located in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State, Chief Olalekan Odemuyiwa over criminal activities on land matters in his domain and environs.

Penpushing reports that, the suspension of Odemuyiwa was contained in a statement issued by Oluwo Ijemo/Aro Egba, Chief Oluyinka Kufile, explaining that he(Odemuyiwa) has shown an utter disrespect and disregard to the council for refusal to meet the Oluwo specifically to speak on allegations made against him.

The Council declared that after thorough examination of all allegations against Odemuyiwa , it was submitted that he was not fit to head and rule the village any longer, with emphasis on the fact that he is also at logger head with his subjects at Agejo and people in the neighbouring villages on land matters

Penpushing further reports that, the council in the suspension order declared; that Odemuyiwa cannot remain as the Baale because the tendency exist for conflict to arise between him and the people who are his subjects

*That in order to forestall the use of your position as the Baale against the people you have issues with, it has become pertinent to reconsider your position as Baale, and in view of your glaring attitude, which is nin-challant, belligerent and unfriendly, it will be counter-productive to retain you as Baale.

*That there is no evidence to show that you understand the position of a Baale, the culture of respect in our tradition and institutions and the need to protect the interest of the people of Agejo. With your disposition there is no doubt that conflicts will continue to arise between you and the people

The traditional council declared that, in view of the above it has decided to terminate appointment of Odemuyiwa as Baale of Agejo, and to forthwith withdraw the certificate issued to him, and ceased to parade himself as the head of the community

‘In view of the above, I am to say that, on no account should you parade yourself as the Baale of Agejo anymore or cause anything or anybody to reflect this in whatever form henceforth’, the Oluwo Ijemo emphasized.

‘You are advised to immediately cease to function as the Baale of Agejo as the traditional authority bestowed on you on your installation has been withdrawn by the authority of the Ijemo Traditional Council. Please be properly guided’, the order warned.
