Three persons killed as speeding vehicle rams into market
A speeding Toyota Sienna vehicle on Wednesday rammed into at Oye-Agu Market in Abagana, a community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State killing three people, with many others feared dead.
Penpushing reports that witnesses said the vehicle suffered a brake failure and hit some roadside traders in the market, as well as causing several wares to spill on the road.
The President-General of the Abagana Community, Ben Okongwu, confirmed the incident to journalists adding that at least three persons including an under-aged child were killed in the incident while some other persons sustained some injuries.
Penpushing further reports that the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement confirmed the development, but said only one person has been confirmed dead in the incident and four persons seriously injured.
“Preliminary information reveals that the accident occurred due to the break failure of the Toyota Sienna vehicle carrying passengers and en route to Lagos rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu (Market) Junction. To this end, the vehicle has been recovered at the station as the investigation is ongoing, please’, he said
Penpushing also reports that the police spokesperson in a statement said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Nnaghe Obono, has commiserated with the family of the deceased, and ordered the arrest of the driver for interrogation.
