Coronavirus: Ogun state musicians embark on sensitization

The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN)Ogun State Chapter  on Wednesday embarked on sensitization exercise to support the government on need and importance to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and also distributed number of facemasks to residents.

Penpushing reports that, the musicians led by Secretary of the association, Comrade Samuel Balogun, popularly called ‘Sammy B’, in compliance with coronavirus guidelines limited number of   as approved by the authorities for the sensitization programme.

The first phase kick-started at Ogun West Senatorial District, which was carried out at  Ado-Odo Otta and Yewa South local government areas, which included notable and populated towns such as Ota and Ilaro among others.

Penpushing further reports that  Balogun while speaking said the mission is to ensure that they contribute meaningfully towards fight against the virus, adding that musicians control larger percentage of residents, who listen to them, hence, the resolved to further talk to them, so that they would be convinced about the reality and danger associated with the coronavirus.

The association also thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for putting in place all strategies and directives to people to prevent the spread of the virus applauding the two visited local government for their compliance.

“As musicians, we have nothing doing now since about four months, we contributed a little amount among ourselves to produced face masks and if we have opportunity to raise or get more funds from people we will produce more. By Thursday we shall be visiting Ogun East Senatorial District to continue our sensitisation exercise.”

“I want to appeal to our people to continue to support ogun state government that they should comply strictly with the state government directives and follow all the guidelines being set aside to stop the spread of Covid19 in our dear state, he concluded.

Penpushing  also reports the, Chairman, transition committee, Ado-Odo/ Ota local government  Hon. Lawal Wasiu along side with his Vice Hon. Ramon Wasiu while receiving the musicians  lauded the team effort at ensuring that everyone is sensitised on the need to adhere to the health and safety protocols especially in the markets.

The council boss  explained that due to the fact that Ado-Odo Otta has highest percentage of tested positive for coronavirus, the state government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun  find it necessary and important to deem its searchlight in the area, hence the provision of  laboratories for coronavirus test.

“Because we are very close to Lagos State, the larger percentage of people working in Lagos State resides in Ado-Odo Otta local government we know the spread of coronavirus in Lagos will definitely come to Ado-Odo Otta”, he said

“It is only in Ado-Odo Otta that we have been carry testing day in day out in other to ensure that anyone who tested positive are being sent to isolation center and all the necessary medication given to them are from the state government. By now, the cases are coming down gradually, with this your sensitisation it will really help to tell people that this Covid19 is real.”

Penpushing also reports that, the council boss, expressed appreciation to the association for coming to the local government to sensitize people on the needs to prevent the global pandemic, stressing that the sensitization will also speak volume, in view of the fact that, musicians parades large number of fans, who listen to them.

The musicians earlier visited motor parks, markets, indomie factory in Sango Otta, to sensitize and see how people are really complying with the government directives, while a member of the executive in Sango market Mr Owolabi Murtala hinted that the association has sensitized their members and they have provided a washing plastic and soap  at the entrance of the market in order for people to sanitize themselves before entering the market.

Penpushing reports that, the secretary, Rotimi Elijah aka Rojah(Omo Iyeru 1) explained that they have been adhering to the government directives by ensuring that both motorists and drivers are strictly comply.

The scribe recommended traditional medicine like ginger, drinking of gin as one of the quickest way to prevent the virus adding  that the leadership of the markets will endeavour to intensify more efforts on strict compliance at the markets.
