Southwest Peoples Democratic Party upturns suspension of party chairman in Oyo State

The Southwest zonal office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday upturned the suspension of the chairman of the party in Ibadan North East Local government, Hon. Taiwo Iyiola over alleged anti party activities.

Penpushing reports that party  said that the suspension of Taiwo Iyiola by the State Working Committee was arbitrarily without any preliminary hearing as demanded by the party’s constitution.

The Oyo State Chapter of the party, it is recalled  in a communique issued by the State Working Committee last week suspended Iyiola for multiple allegations of anti-party activities by the executives of his local political ward and sequel to his suspension from the party at his ward level.

Penpushing further reports that,in a statement signed by the zonal secretary, Hon. Daisi Akintan noted that in  line with section 61(1) of the party constitution (2017) as amended, the suspended chairman was neither queried nor giving fair hearing before he was suspended.

“Consequently upon the above, the Committee has diligently considered the complaints of the suspended chairman severally, relying on Section (6), which states that “any decision taken against members who has not been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any opportunity of defending himself shall be null and void.”

“It is of utmost importance that you note that the National Working Committee in recognition of reconciliation as the key language of the moment inaugurated a Reconciliation Committee led by Dr. Bukola Saraki to look into grievances and usages same among members, you are expected to refer to the Committee all complaints, issues, grievances and allegations when they arrived your state.”

Penpushing also reports that the Publicity Secretary of the party in Oyo State, Engr. Akeem Olatunji when contacted on phone said that the zonal secretary, Hon. Daisi Akintan who signed the letter reinstating the suspended chairman lacks power to act without the consent of the zonal chairman, Hon.Dayo Ogunbenro, saying that the purported letter was null and void.

The scribe of the party maintained that the zonal secretary took the step on his own without the awareness of the zonal chairman, adding that the decision of the party to suspends Iyiola was jointly taken by the State Working Committee of the party.
