Pregnant woman gang-raped to death

An abducted pregnant woman Chigbewejim Steward, from the Abarikpo community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State has been gang-raped to death, with the corpse later discovered around a fishing pond hours after her abduction, with multiple bruises and bleeding from her private parts.

Penpushing reports that the gang stormed the residence of the victim on February 12, 2023, broke into her house at midnight, abducted her following a quarrel they earlier had with the mastermind of the crime.

The deceased husband, Lawyer Steward, narrating the incident the mastermind of the incident identified as Emeka who is now in police custody led the gang to their house, having earlier threatened his wife for calling him a wicked man during a quarrel

 Penpushing further reports that the widower appealed to the government to ensure that justice is given to his late wife, recalling that the gang leader after the crime fled the community, and was arrested fifteen months later

‘He told my wife that she would see wickedness that day. That night around 1 a.m. on Sunday, those bad boys came to my house and broke the door and took my wife away. My wife was five months pregnant’, he stated.

‘Emeka and his gang raped and strangled her to death. The police arrested him on Thursday. I have gone to the station to give my statement. I want the government to intervene so that justice will prevail’, he added

Penpushing also reports that the bereaved husband said his wife’s corpse was discovered around a fishing pond hours after her abduction, with multiple bruises and bleeding from her private parts.

The Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko, however, confirmed the arrest of the suspect adding that he will be transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for proper investigation and prosecution.
