Three children of a police inspector serving in Eket Division, Akwa Ibon State have been reported drowned in a pool of water used for erosion control at Eket barracks .
Penpushing reports that, the Akwa Ibom Police Command Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the sad news which he described as “painful and shocking”, adding that the command received the news with shock and disbelief..
“The three of them were children of two serving police inspectors in Eket division, we commiserate with the families, it is indeed painful. We understand that the pool of water is used for erosion control, it is more painful because this is preventable,” he said.
Penpushing further reports that, Macdon urged police officers residing in barracks to be more vigilant to avoid tragic occurrences, stressing, “we should keep an eye on the welfare of our family members, they are the reason we work.”
The scene as at the time of filing this report has been cordoned off, while a bereaved family member, who pleaded anonymity, said the incident occurred on Tuesday, and that the children were aged between 5 and 7.
