Police brutality protest: Hoodlums set Lagoon Hospital ablaze in Lagos state
The Lagoon Hospital located at Liverpool Road, Apapa, in Lagos was on Tuesday razed by suspected hoodlums for allegedly refusing to treat a wounded protester who rushed to the hospital for treatment but later died
Penpushing reports that, the unidentified victim was reported to have sustained bullets wound and was rushed to the Hospital for treatment but was allegedly rejected, while a video shared on social media, showed the corpse of the man in front gate of the health institution.
The angry crowd in swift reaction gathered at the hospital, burnt tyres and set ablaze a portion of the hospital, but the fire was later put under control before it spread to the other sections of the hospital building.
Penpushing further reports that, the management of the hospital in reaction to the ugly development explained that the allegations by the mob were untrue, adding that the victim was brought in dead.
The authorities of the hospital also denied the speculations that the entire building was set ablaze, but confirmed that hospital only the Emergency Room (ER) entrance was attacked and tyres burnt at the car park.
“Hello all, we attend to all emergency cases. He was brought in dead and the Okada man tried to abandon him. The Okada man drove away and dumped the dead body outside the hospital.We did not know he was left on the road. We are committed to assisting all those injured. Thank you to everyone supporting healthcare workers; the management said in a statement.
“The ER entrance was damaged and they burnt tyres at the car park. Thankfully no staff was injured and though badly shaken, all are home now. The hospital was not burnt,” the statement added.
