Peoples Democratic Party issues conflicting statement over Adebutu’s purported detention
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ogun State Chapter has issued two conflicting statements in regards the purported arrest and detention of its former Governorship Candidate, at the 2023 election Hon Ladi Adebutu.
Penpushing reports that following earlier speculations that the politician was allegedly arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) for questioning over violence recorded at the Saturday local government election, the Director, Media and Publicity of the party, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole came out with a statement to deny the report.
The Director, Media and Publicity of the party in the statement said the news was another fantasy from pit of hell and naked lie that should be ignored, alleging the Ogun State Government as behind such, by its irresponsible errand voices
‘The news of Hon Ladi Adebutu’s arrest by the DSS is another fantasy from the pit of hell being circulated by the Dapo Abiodun’s idle rats. It’s just another naked lie. Yes, he was invited by the department earlier this afternoon’, Bankole wrote
‘And as a law-abiding citizen, he went in to honour the invite in the company of our State Chairman, Hon Hon Yomi Tella and a few party chiefs. The public is hereby requested to ignore another round of lies from the failed government and its irresponsible errand voices’, he added.
Penpushing further reports that in another twist of event, Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Arc. Kayode Adebayo countered statement earlier issued by the party’s Media Director, confessing that Adebutu was truly detained
The statement issued by Adebayo after earlier denial of purported detention by Bankole confessed that as at 10pm on Monday, efforts to secure his(Adebutu’s) on bail either on self-recognition or by surety could not yield any positive result
Penpushing also reports that Adebayo in the statement added that the detained party leader called for calm and directed that all members of the party, supporters and well-wishers, to be rest assured that this time shall pass, which was one of the prices for democracy.
‘This is to inform the members of our great party, The Peoples Democratic Party that the leader of the party has truly been detained by the DSS for charges yet unknown. However, our principal has called for calm and directed that all members of the party, supporters and well-wishers should be rest assured that this time shall pass, it is one of the prices for our democracy’, the statement read.
‘Several efforts have been made to secure his bail as at 10pm on Monday, 18th November, 2024 either on personal recognition or by a surety but none has yielded any result so far; his lawyers have been informed and they will take it up by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning’, Adebayo added.
‘By this release, we want our people and the general public to be duly informed about his whereabouts and to maintain calm and peace until this matter is resolved. Thank you’, the party publicity secretary emphasized.
