Penpushing member, Abdullahi Maiwada promoted assistant comptroller of customs

A member of Penpushing platform Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada has been promoted from Chief Superintendent of Customs to the position of Assistant Comptroller of Customs by the Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB),

Penpushing reports that promotion of Maiwada was made known alongside other officers at 61st regular meeting of the board held on December 18, 2024 chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun.

The board equally approved a posthumous promotion in honour of the late Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Etop Andrew Essien, who passed away on June 25, 2024, during a presentation before the National Assembly House Committee on Public Accounts.

Penpushing further reports that the board explained that this gesture acknowledged invaluable contributions and unwavering dedication, of the officers and a testament to the organisation’s appreciation of exceptional service and commitment.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on behalf of the board, congratulated all newly appointed, promoted, and retained officers, urging them to uphold the service’s core mandates and pursue excellence.

Penpushing also reports that Adeniyi in celebration of this milestone, reaffirmed the service’s commitment to fostering a motivated workforce with assured career progression and a steadfast focus on excellence

The profile of Maiwada has it that he was born on January 12, 1987 in Katsina state, attended his primary and secondary school education Kano and later proceeded to Bayero University Kano, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education/Geography and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management.

Penpushing reports that he equally holds a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Mass-Communication from Crescent University Abeokuta, and is currently a Doctorate Researcher specialising in Internal Communication at the University of Abuja.

The officer was enlisted into the Nigeria Customs Service as Cadet ASC II in 2011, had a long stint as the Zonal Public Relations Officer Zone ‘B’ Headquarters, Public Relations Officer Ogun Command (now Ogun I & II Area Commands).

Penpushing further reports that Maiwada was deployed to Headquarters in 2020 as the pioneer Liaison Officer of Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network and later deputised the immediate past National Public Relations Officer from January 2022 to February 2023.

The 37-year-old was appointed substantive spokesperson of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in April 2023, a position he holds to date, and to fully embrace the service of Public Relations and its dynamics, he is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and a member of the African Public Relations Association (APRA).

Penpushing also reports that he also holds full membership with the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), and the Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON).

The officer has attended numerous courses relating to Customs Operations, Trade Facilitation, Public Relations, Strategic Communication, and Leadership, and as a consummate and seasoned officer, he is a recipient of the 2020 World Customs Organisation (WCO) meritorious award.

Penpushing reports that he recently bagged the Best Spokesperson of the Year award organised by Image Merchant Limited, and under his watch, the Public Relations Unit recently received the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Meritorious Award during the 2024 International Customs Day Celebration (ICD).

The newly promoted official equally received the 2024 Best spokesperson award from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and has several published conceptual and empirical papers relating to Public Relations in Customs and other areas in the field of communication, and happily married with three kids

Penpushing further reports that Maiwada until his new elevation was the Deputy National Public Relations Officer, before becoming National Public Relations Officer of the customs, a position held till date.
