Tribunal fixes July 5 for hearing of Ogun state governorship election petition

The Ogun State election petition tribunal has fixed 5 July for the commencement of the proper hearing of a petition filed  by the Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Hon Ladi Adebutu against the return of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC)

Penpushing reports that the tribunal had earlier dismissed an application by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Governorship Candidate counter-accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Abiodun of vote buying during the election.

The Governorship Candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the petition filed prayed the tribunal to reverse results of the election, and declared him winner of the Governorship poll, contrary to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of Abiodun as Governor

Penpushing further reports that on Thursday after the pre-hearing the tribunal directed the counsel to tender on 4 July all documents and papers that were not objected to by either the petitioners or the respondents.

The Chairman of the election tribunal, Justice Hamidu Kunaza, emphasized that documents that are unopposed will be tendered and admitted from the bar on July 4, 2023, adding that the trial and calling of witnesses commence on July 5, 2023
