Gunmen kill all progressives congress chairperson, abduct others in Imo state

A ward chairperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Christian Ihim, in Okwe, a community in Onuimo Local Government of Imo State has been killed by suspected gunmen who invaded his residence.

Penpushing reports that sources said the incident occurred on Tuesday night, adding that, the gunmen after killing him, abducted five other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the community, and that the deceased served as the chairperson of the Umuchoke Ward in the council area.

The sources disclosed that  the hoodlums shot repeatedly through the night, forcing many residents to flee, adding that in same vein, the gunmen also invaded Okwelle, a neighbouring community and abducted a female member of the All Progressives Congress(APC) identified as Onyinyechi Egenti.

Penpushing further reports that, the slain chairman was a former aide to the immediate past National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emma Ibediro, a development which was equally confirmed by the Imo state spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Cajethan Duke

“I have confirmed that. It is true,” he said of the incident, adding that the details of the attack remain sketchy. They also kidnapped five other chieftains (of the APC). But out of the five kidnapped persons, they have released two of them’, Duke said.

The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye when contacted on Thursday confirmed the incident, but was yet to give details of the incident as at the time of filing this report

Penpushing also reports that the latest killing and abduction occurred days after gunmen beheaded the sole administrator of Ideato North Local Government Area of the state.
