Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan impeached

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday impeached the Deputy Governor of the state, Engr Rauf Olaniyan over series of allegations, and said to have been at logger head with Governor Seyi Makinde since assumption of office over three years ago

Penpushing reports that the announcement was made following the adoption of the recommendations of the report of the 7-man panel set up to investigate allegations levelled against the Deputy Governor, a report read by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin.

The embattled Deputy Governor, it is recalled had earlier filed a suit at the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, to challenge procedure of the State House of Assembly to remove him from office, but the case was dismissed on Thursday by  justice Ladiran Akintola

Penpushing further reports that, the judge held that the state lawmakers and all the defendants have not erred on the procedures taken,noting that the originating summons filled by the claimant was purely legislative procedure and not judicial in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor recently defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state to the opposition, All Progressive Congress (APC), hence, the  State House of Assembly  set up a seven-man committee to investigate corrupt cases level against him.
