Obasanjo contributed to my emergence as Ooni of Ife, says Oba Ogunwusi

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has disclosed that, former President Olusegun Obasanjo contributed to his emergence as the monarch of the ancient town of Ile-Ife located in Osun State of Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that, the monarch made this known at the ceremony on his 5th year coronation anniversary organised by Oodua Descendants Union, packaged by the Odua Group of Companies, with Penpushing serving as media partner.

The royal father said he would remain grateful to Obasanjo, adding that, when he told the former President about his 5th coronation anniversary he (Obasanjo) was amazed saying how time flies and they both gave thanks to God.

Penpushing further reports that, the first class traditional ruler recalled that his 5th year on the throne had offered him lots of experiences, adding that he has seen a lot, but profusely gave praises to God.

The ceremony held at banquet hall of Premier hotels, Mokola, Ibadan attracted dignitaries across the country, which include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’rd Abubarkar, Alake of Egba land, Oba Adedotun  Gbadebo,  Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola, Oniru of Iruland, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, Olu Itori of Egbaland, Oba Fatai Akamo and Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson among others.

Penpushing also reports tha, the Ekeefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi was the guest lecturer who stated that Ooni’s impact on Yorubaland and Nigeria in general cannot be over emphasised.

The guest lecturer noted that care must be taking in making sure the legacy left behind the forefathers must be saved and prayed for the Ooni to live longer than his predecessor, calling on the monarch not to relent on his efforts towards bringing Yoruba’s back into one folds.

Penpushing reports that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’rd Abubarkar, in his remarks said that Yoruba cultural heritage is very important and that was what differentiate Yoruba from other tribes in Nigeria.

“We are all neighbors, so the issue of ethnicity should not divide us, we must understand ourselves, the more we move closer to each other, the more we understand ourselves. We must sensitized our political leaders not to divide us but to always do the right things all the time because God will asked for our impact while alive’.

The monarch however urged Ooni to continue doing good irrespective of the criticism he might encountered while discharging his duty, while the celebrator expressed appreciation to all dignitaries for making the ceremony a success

Penpushing further reports that, highlight of the programme was ‘Amazon Award’ bestowed on Iyalode Alaba Lawson by the monarch, which was presented by the former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

The former President described Lawson as a very formidable woman, a woman in man skin, as well as through and foremost educationist with one of the best school in the country, whose impact on the development of the country cut across and commended the royal father for honouring her.

The awardee in her remarks said the award was historic in her life and expressed profuse appreciation, stressing that she would dedicate the award to womanhood, adding that the monarch had made her proud to do more
