Obasanjo, Amosun mourn passage of Oba Olufemi Ogunleye

Former Nigeria’s President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Ogun State former Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun have mourned demise of prominent traditional ruler in Ogun State, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye who passed on Wednesday at 79.

Penpushing reports that the duo in a separate statement described the death of the monarch who was also a frontline member of Penpushing platform as shocking and a great loss to the entire Owuland, Ogun State and the country in general

The former President who was in South Africa when the sad incident occurred said he recalled that he had earlier informed the deceased of his trip, adding that as at that time he saw him (Ogunleye) some weeks back he was in high spirit.

Penpushing further reports that Obasanjo noted that the late traditional ruler of Akinale community of Owu kingdom would be miss for his resourcefulness and promotion of cultural heritage of his homestead.

The former Governor in his own condolence message commiserated with the Ogunleye royal family of Akinale and Delesolu Compound, Ago-Owu, Abeokuta, the council of Chiefs and the entire indigenes of Akinale,.

Penpushing also reports that Amosun described Ogunleye as a respected monarch with unwavering commitment and passion towards the development of Akinale, Owu Kingdom, Egbaland, and Ogun State.

‘He was an embodiment of royalty and professionalism, having excelled as a veteran journalist, public relations icon, and a renowned legal practitioner. His successful career was undoubtedly a testament to his successful reign’, he wrote.

Penpushing reports that Amosun pointed out that as the 1st Towulade of Akinale, who was crowned in 2006, Ogunleye played significant roles in influencing many positive developments that have taken place in the community.

The Owu born politician said the deceased exemplified purposeful leadership and was always at the forefront of promoting peaceful co-existence and unity among the people, and prayed Almighty God will grant him eternal rest, and give the entire Ogunleye family and the people of Akinale, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Penpushing further reports that traditional ruler died Wednesday June 19, 2024, in the United Kingdom after a brief illness and survived by his wife, Olori Olanike Ogunleye, children and grandchildren, among whom is Mr. Bamidele Ogunleye of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Abeokuta.
