Ayinla Omowura lead drummer, Adewole Onilu-Ola dies one month after 97th birthday celebration

The late Ayinla Omowura lead drummer, Alhaji AbdukRakman Alao Adewole, popularly called ‘Adewole Onilu-Ola’ has died on Tuesday night,  a month after his 97 birthday held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that, the son of the legendary drummer, Kamil Adewole confirmed the death on behalf of the family, adding that the aged man breathed his last at his Keesi-Arinlese residence in the town, following a brief illness

The renowned drummer, it is recalled, alongside his late boss, Ayinla Omowura ruled the Apala music world in the country and beyond, between 1970 and 1980, while both were said  to have jointly established the Egba-based Apala Music Band in the ’60s.

Penpushing further reports that,  the fame of the band was cut short when(Ayinla Omowura) the leader of the band was killed  on May 6, 1980 following a beer parlour fight at Idi-Oparun, Ago-Ika in Abeokuta between him and his late band manager, Fatai Baiyewunmi

Meanwhile, the family disclosed that remains of the iconic Apala music drummer will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites at his residence located behind the Emmanuel Anglican Primary School, Keesi in Abeokuta on Wednesday at 4pm.
