Mother sets 10-year old daughter ablaze

A mother, Aisha Tijani, resident of Mowe in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State has allegedly poured petrol on her 10-year-old daughter and set her on fire, and was subsequently arrested

Penpushing reports that,  Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement on Tuesday, said a neighbor identified as  Moroof Ayinde, reported the incident  to the Mowe Police Division.

The statement added that, the neighbor further told the police that the woman assaulted her daughter because she gave a phone she seized from one of her other children, back to the owner, adding  that upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer at Mowe Division, Folashade Tanaruno, moved to the scene with detectives and promptly arrested the suspect.

Penpushing further reports that, Oyeyemi added that the victim, who was severely burnt, was rushed to a nearby hospital, and thereafter referred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), in Sagamu, where she is said to be receiving treatment as at the time of filing this report.

“On interrogation, the suspect, who claimed to have been separated from the father of the children, explained to the police that she didn’t know what came over her when she was carrying out the wicked act”, the statement said

Penpushing also reports that, Oyeyemi explained that, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered that case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department for investigation.
