Man beheads girlfriend

A man been identified simply as Tony resident of Kabeama coastal settlement in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has allegedly beheaded his girlfriend who was identified as Ebibraaladei Maxwell.

Penpushing reports that the neighbours, said the sad incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, at about 3 a.m., with the severed head of the victim discovered at dawn,adding that residents apprehended the suspect while trying to escape from the scene

The sources said the alleged killer and the slain woman lived together with a child, while as at the time of filing this report the suspect had been handed over to the Balyesa State Police Command for further interrogation.

Penpushing further reports that the Command Public Relations Officer Musa Mohammed confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect was in police custody and undergoing interrogation, while the remains of the victim had being evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Yenagoa.

The Bayelsa State Government, however, on Tuesday, called for calm over the incident, amidst reported tension between members of the Kabeama and Amatolo communities where the woman and the boyfriend hail from.

Penpushing also reports that the Deputy Governor of the state, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in a statement by his media aide, Doubara Atasi, urged the two communities to allow the police to handle the matter, and cautioned the woman’s community against reprisal.

The Deputy Governor said the government was taking appropriate measures to ensure justice for the deceased and her family, as he equally condemned the killing, saying it was an unacceptable sad development.

Penpushing reports that Ewhrudjakpo called on traditional leaders and people of the two communities to avoid utterances and actions that could escalate the matter, also appealed to both communities to cooperate with government and security agencies to ensure amicable handling of the matter.

The Deputy Governor disclosed that security agencies have since swung into action in line with government directives on the matter, expressing the condolences of the government to the family of the deceased and assured them of justice.
