Ibadan chiefs task oyo state government over influx of okada riders,scavengers

The Ibadan Chiefs known as Mogajis have tasked the Oyo State Government over the influx of commercial motorcycles operators, with number of them alleged to have come from neighbouring countries to Nigeria

Penpushing reports that, the chiefs which include Baales, raised the alarm in a communique issued at the end of their meeting which was held on Thursday at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Chiefs  and other stakeholders, under the banner  of Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative said the call became necessary considering risen insecurity across the nation particularly in the southwest region, emphasizing  that there is need to re-strategised concerning security of the region particularly Ibadanland.

Penpushing further reports that, the communique was of the views and concern that  whatever would happens in Southwest may  start from Ibadanland, and therefore frowned  at influx of motorcycle riders  and scavengers.

The communique noted that  majority of these strangers  are suspected to have come from neighboring African countries to Ibadanland, adding that some of them have ammunitions which can endangered security of lives and properties of the people.

“We reject their influx and the danger they posses to the safety of our life’s and property, they have mixed with our people by the virtue of their motorcycle and other businesses’, the communique declared

Penpushing also reports that the stakeholders however appealed to government to curtail excesses of the strangers before it get out of hand, saying that Ibadan Chiefs, Mogajis and Baales others in the  traditional institution would not tolerate any form of banditry and terrorism.

The Chiefs therefore said powerful security committee which consists of retired senior military personnel, police and paramilitary would be set up to give security advice in order to curtail the excesses.

Penpushing reports that communique commended the  Oyo State Government, security agencies for their efforts so far, urging them to do more so that insecurity can reduced to bearest minimum in the state and environs.

The  issues discussed at the meeting are : strengthen of adequate conventional and additional local security  intelligent gathering along all border villages and communities, creating of working security committee in all local government in Ibadanland

Penpushing further reports that, others are  sensitisation and involvement of  retired military, police and para military officers to assist in solving  local security challenges, and maintenance of synergies among all  traditional set up most especially the Mogajis and Baales to ensure adequate security in all  various communities and Local Government areas in Ibadanland among others.

The participants at the meeting include :  representative of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Ademola Odunade, President of Ibadan Mogajis, Chief Asimiyu Ariori, representatives of Central Council of Ibadan (CCII) President General, Prince Yemisi Adeaga, the convener of the initiative and   Chief Dotun Sanusi, former Central Council of Ibadan (CCII) President General, Yemi Soladoye.

Penpushing also reports that, others are: President of Association of Baales of Ibadanland, Elder Taye Ayorinde,  Coordinator of the initiative, Mogaji (Asiwaju) Nurudeen Akinade, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo state, representative of Chief Imam of Ibadaland and the Muslim Community in Ibadanland As well as the representative of traditionalist among others.
