Police arrests two alleged notorious cultists in Ijebu-Igbo

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a notorious cult group, known as Aiye confraternity,in Ijebu-Igbo town for allegedly attacking Salami Azzez, a vigilante official

Penpushing reports that, Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known, adding the operatives arrested the suspects following a report by the victim, he was attacked for having effrontery to question them following their suspicious movement in the community

The police spokesman said the victim who lodged complaint said he was contracted as a vigilante man at Aleke area of Ijebu-Igbo, and while he was on duty at about 1:30am, he saw three boys moving around the area; and when he challenged them about their mission in the area at that ungodly hour, they attacked him with iron rod which they used to inflict serious injury on his head.

‘The suspects, were arrested following a report lodged at Ijebu-Igbo divisional headquarters by one Salami Azeez, who reported that he was contracted as a vigilante man at Aleke area of Ijebu-Igbo, and while he was on duty at about 1:30am, he saw three boys moving around the area; and when he challenged them about their mission in the area at that ungodly hour, they attacked him with iron rod which they used to inflict serious injury on his head’.

Penpushing further reports that, Oyeyemi said on the strength of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Kazeem Solotan mobilized his patrol team and moved to the scene where two amongst the suspects were arrested.

The Command Public Relations Officer gave identities of the suspects as include: Balogun Opemipo(26) and Korede Onabanjo(27), while the third one escaped,adding that upon their arrest, the policemen discovered them to be among those on their wanted list for their involvement in various cult related clashes in Ijebu-Igbo and its environs.

Penpushing also reports that, Oyeyemi said on interrogation, the two suspects confessed to be members of the dreaded Aiye cult group terrorizing the area for quite some time now, stressing that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun has directed that the suspects be transferred to the  State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecutions.
