Governor Emmanuel says witches dragged him to court for building church for state

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has alleged that witches dragged him to court for building a Christian Worship Centre for the state, arguing that his decision to build the centre was because the state was named after God.

Penpushing reports that, Emmanuel said this during a media chat that was broadcast live on radio and television, apparently reacting to a lawsuit filed by the Atheist Society of Nigeria against the Akwa Ibom State Government in 2019 to stop the government from building the worship centre.

“All (the) witches and wizards came together and took me to court that we are building a Christian Worship Center. They say they are atheists. The case is in the court, we won them but they have appealed’, he said

Penpushing further reports that, one of the Governor’s aide, Aniekeme Finbarr explained that, the statement may sound funny, but stated that, it was true, in view of attempt to stop the project through legal attempts by the group

The Governor who was said to have recently handpicked one of his cabinet member as his successor used the occasion to elaborate further, adding that communication between a leader and God is different from what others are seeing, stressing that people must understand
