Give enabling environment for artwork to thrive, Odunlade urges government

The Director, Arts and Connexions, Tunde Odunlade has urged Nigerian government to create enabling environment for artwork to thrive, saying that this will reduced rate of unemployment among jobless Nigerian youth.

Penpushing reports that Odunlade stated this while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital ahead of the Grand Opening Ceremony and Gallery Tour/Artist Talk coming up on 10th of December

The Director lamented that religious practitioners have relegated artwork, forgetting that artwork remained the only document of historical fact that keeps our images as a country noting that politics has makes Nigerians to forget its art and culture which would have served as source of income for the nation apart from crude oil.

“Nigeria should ventured into artwork by giving enabling environment for art and culture to survived, artwork is the only finished product that comes out of the country.Nigeria need to diversify its economy from crude oil, crude oil will finished one day, artwork is the only national heritage that will not finished.

Penpushing further reports that speaking on the Grand Opening Ceremony and Gallery Tour/Artist Talk, Odunlade stated that it will create chance for Nigerians who are lovers of artwork and ready to learn opportunity to showcase their talents in their various fields.

The Ile-Ife born artist maintained that any nation without creativity will go no where emphasizing that creativity and imagination makes the society.

“I didn’t choose art work, art work chooses me, I noticed that my journey has to do with artwork while growing up, I was one of the actor in Langbodo, the play that was presented as Nigerian entries in Festival of Art and Culture (FESTAC)’.

Penpushing also reports that Odunlade however said that dignitaries coming for the Grand Opening Ceremony and Gallery Tour/Artist Talk, include: Pro. Wole Soyinka, Engr. Yemisi Shillon,  Prof. Bolanle Awe, Oloye Bayo Adelabu, Dr. Yemi Farombi, and Oloye Lekan Alabi among others.
