GERMAN FOUNDATION PARTNERS NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

He assured that the organization would continue to create platform that would enable the researchers to build on their career, and also commended researchers in the university for their commitment in mentoring the most-promising junior researchers. 

Earlier in his welcome address, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Felix Kolawole Salako, encouraged Nigerian researchers to engage in international collaborations as a way to add value and make more meaningful contribution towards the development of the country.

The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Morenike Dipeolu, emphasised that research partnership and collaboration among scientists remains an essential component of the developmental goals of the university system.

His words, “Those who seek to be outstanding in their research cannot limit themselves to their immediate surroundings. They must have a global look while working locally. They must strive to break the barriers for increased global competitiveness’.

“Researchers from Nigeria need to reach out to researchers from other countries to expand their frontier of knowledge, improve quality and impact potentials of their research and keep abreast of recent developments in their fields”, the VC added. 

Penpushing reports that, Salako lamented that efforts of researches in the institution to unleash the potentials of agriculture in transforming the economy of Nigeria and bringing wealth to the doorsteps of the citizens still look like a mirage. 

The University Don also observed that the challenge of accessing funds for research, admonishing governments at all levels as well as well-meaning Nigerians as parts of efforts to proffer solutions myriad of problems confronting the Nigerian nation.

Penpushing reports that, background information has it that Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from abroad and from Germany. It also has it that, research fellowships of the AvH allow awardees to go to Germany and work on a research project chosen by the award recipient together with a host in Germany, and as an intermediary organisation for German foreign cultural and educational policy, the AvH promote international cultural dialogue and academic exchange.
