Former Anambra state governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife is dead

A former Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife who was also a lecturer at Makarare University College, Kampala, Uganda has been reported dead on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at age 86

Penpushing reports that Rob Ezeife on behalf of the family made the demise of the politician, who was born on November 20, 1937, known in a statement issued and provided to journalists adding that details of his burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

‘On behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu, I wish to announce the promotion to glory of our most distinguished son, ‘Okwadike’, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON, a former federal permanent secretary, a former governor of Anambra State, a former political adviser to the (an ex-) president and former presidential aspirant,” the statement said.

Penpushing further reports that Ezeife who hailed from Igbo-Ukwu, a community in Aguata Local Government Area of the state was elected Governor of Anambra State on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1992 during Nigeria’s Third Republic.

The deceased served as Governor of Anambra State until November 1993 when former and late Nigerian Military dictator, General Sani Abacha, seized power at the centre, and in 1999, he was appointed a Special Adviser on Political Matters by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, at the commencement of the country’s fourth Republic.

Penpushing also reports that Ezeife did not attend secondary school, but taught himself through correspondence courses, qualifying for university admission, and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan and his Master’s Degree and Doctorate from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the United States of America in 1972, and in his life time served as a school headmaster.
