Five die, 12 injured in road crash along Ibadan-Lagos expressway

A multiple crash near the Foursquare Church camp along Lagos-Ibadan expressway located in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State, on Saturday claimed lives of five persons, while twelve others sustained injuries.

Penpushing reports that Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command said in statement that the accident occurred after a truck conveying cows and other goods crashed on the road at about 6.15pm

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Florence Okpe in a statement explained that the accident involved a DAF truck with registration number, KMC- 810ZB; a Toyota bus marked TMA- 244XA, and a Mitsubishi pickup with no registration number on it.

‘A total of 21 persons were involved in the multiple crash, all male adults,” the FRSC spokesperson in the state. 12 people were injured and unfortunately five persons were recorded dead from the road traffic crash and the remaining were unhurt’, Okpe said

Penpushing further reports that the statement disclosed that the truck had a tyre burst while on high speed and this led to loss of control by the driver, and thereafter the truck crashed and occupied the road and others were running into the crashed vehicle.

The imagemaker of the agency added that as at the time of filing this report the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical attention, while the bodies of the dead were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara, all in Ogun State.

Penpushing also reports that the Sector Commander of the agency Anthony Uga, had advised motorists against the use of sub-standard tyres, and equally charged them to apply common sense speed limit, especially in the rainy season.
