Fire kills late Peoples Democratic Party chairman’s wife, sister-in-law

The home of the late former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Udo Ekpenyong in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State was on Christmas eve gutted by fire which consumed wife and sister-in-law of the deceased politician

Penpushing reports that the fire incident occurred late in the evening in the Ekpenyong’s house at Shelter Afrique Estate, Uyo, and was confirmed by the Secretary of the Ukanafun local council (transition committee), Udeme Idiong.

The Ekpenyongs were from Ukanafun council area of Akwa Ibom State, while Idiong explained in a statement that the victims was the wife of the late Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Elizabeth Ekpenyong and the woman’s sister, Ofonime Frank.

Penpushing further reports that, the chairman of the local government area, Godwin Ekpe has declared seven days of mourning in the area following the tragic incident, while the council has withdrawn its contingent and performance in the ongoing christmas celebration in Uyo.

The statement added that the authorities of the Ukanafun council area smphatized with the family of the deceased and equally prayed for the repose of the departed souls, recalling that the former Peoples Democratic Party boss died on 19 January, 2021 of complications from coronavirus.

Penpushing also reports that late Ekpenyong, was the sixth chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom and a former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state.
