Electoral commission encourages electorate to embrace ongoing online pre-registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),Ogun State Chapter  has called on electorates in the state to take part in the ongoing online pre-registration for continuous voter registration exercise nationwide.

Penpushing reports that, Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Adenike Tadese made the call on Wednesday in a statement, adding that that towards this exercise, the commission has open its portal effective from Monday, June 28, 2021.

‘In view of this, the Hon. Resident Electoral Commissioner INEC Ogun State Prof. AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji wishes to call on the good citizens of Ogun State to take advantage of this opportunity to register online’, the statement emphasied.

Penpushing further reports that, Tadese in the statement explained that the online pre- registration portal was designed and launched to serve various requirements of eligible Nigerians

The commission spokesperson said the categories include;-those who are 18 years and above and have never registered,registered voters with accreditation issues during the past elections, with either their Permanent Voters’ Cards or fingerprints not read/ recognised by Smart Card Reader.

Penpushing  reports that, they also include; registered voters seeking transfer from one voting location to another, registered voters with defaced, damaged or lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), and registered voters who wish to correct their data such as misspelt names, date of birth etc.

The statement said intending registrants can access the website address https://cvr.inecnigeria.org or https://cvr.inec.gov.ng to pre register and then proceed to  the commission’s State or Local Government Office in Ogun State to complete their registration on 19th July, 2021

Penpushing also reports that, in a related development, the commission explained that the date for commencement of physical Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) at all the other registration centers shall be determined based on evaluation of security situations across the entire 2,673 registration centers nationwide.

The statement added that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner had earlier met and extensively briefed the management staff and the electoral officers across the twenty local governments in the state on the modalities to embark upon to operate the online voter registration portal and physical Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) which shall be cascaded to the Assistant Electoral Officers in their various local government areas

‘Prof.  AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji wishes to reiterate that that the online registration by INEC is offered free of charge, there is neither INEC approved Cybercafe nor scratch card; all that is required to register online is a device /mobile phone that can connect to the internet’, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the commission disclosed that, the 24 hour online continuous voter registration statistics/update nationwide as at 29th June 2021 indicated a total of 59, 331 accounts created, 42,211 total applications,  27,759 new voter pre-registration,  11, 177 voter record review, 1,669 voter transfer,  853 information update, 418 uncollected Permanent Voters Card(PVC), request and 335 lost or damaged Permanent Voter cards( PVC) and replacement request.
