Court jails teacher for sexually assaulting student

A 31-year-old teacher, Idowu Daniel, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old student within the school, having been charged to Ikeja Special Offences Court with defilement.

Penpushing reports that, the judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, held that the prosecution failed to establish the charge of defilement against the defendant, as the survivor failed to show up in court to testify, but pointed out that the confessional statement by the defendant, which was made voluntarily, showed that he sexually assaulted the minor.

“However, the confessional statement by the defendant, which was made voluntarily, showed that he sexually assaulted the minor. The defendant admitted to having fondled the breast of the victim twice and tried to have sex with her but he could not penetrate as she was a virgin. The defendant is hereby convicted on the charge of sexual assault of a child”, the judge declared.

Penpushing further reports that, the convict when asked anything to say after the judgement pleaded for mercy, calling on the judge that he was sorry over what happened, with a pledge that such wont happen again

The judge pointed out and emphasized that, it was disappointing that as a teacher, the convict touched breast of his student, adding that he would have bag life imprisonment if the victim had come to court to testify.
