Community Relations Committee conniving with police to commit crimes, says Police boss

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone XI, Oshogbo, Babatunde Ajani on Tuesday said that some members of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) are conniving with some criminally minded police officers to extort the public.

Penpushing reports that Ajani noted that the extortion has make the purpose of creating Police Community Relation Committee (PSRC) counterproductive, adding that the committe should be working for a common goal which was peaceful coexistence between the Police and community.

The police boss said this while speaking during his official visit to the Oyo State Police command headquarter, Eleyele, Ibadan, adding  that people must work together with the police to ensure safety of their lives and property.

Penpushing further reports that,Ajani urged all stakeholders to give necessary support to the police, saying that the police are also ready to cooperate with the people to get rid of crimes and criminality in the society.

“Tell your people that we are ready to work with them and they should also be ready to work with us, Police are trying their best but we can’t give what we don’t have, I come to talk and seek your support, EndSARS has created a lot of distance between the police and the people.”

“I come to implore the people to come back to us, we want to move closer to you again, we don’t want to be far from you again, any successful police must have the support of the people, Police cannot live without the people and the people cannot also live without the police.”

Penpushing also reports that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko earlier in her welcome address,  noted that the command was into policing with human face through visibility policing and partnering with other sisters security agencies.

The commissioner maintained that Oyo State Police Command is relatively peaceful because officers and men of the command are working tirelessly to ensure security of lives and property of the people in the state.

The police boss however lamented shortage of man power and lack of arms and ammunition by the command, saying that although insecurity is all over the nation which Oyo State command is not in exemption, but the command is trying its best to overcome the challenge.
